Delta Spirits Packaging Process

An imagined bourbon distillery inspired by the process of making bourbon, which was founded and mastered in New Orleans, Louisiana. The river that runs through the city of New Orleans, locally referred to as "Delta", became a focal point for the brand's visual identity.

Research & Inspiration gathering:

Once we decided to create packaging for alcohol, a shared Miro board was created to contain all images used throughout the research and preliminary processes.

Once we established ideas that we did and didn't like, we decided to design a label for a bourbon bottle that would contain information about how bourbon is made and different ways to drink it. That information is displayed in a mini book that is attached to the label. New Orleans came up with the distillery process that we use today, which became the inspiration for this entire design. There is also a river that runs through the city, called Delta, which was the central idea for the brand name and graphics.

First Draft:

The following image is our first draft for the label. This is where a brand identity was established through the front of the label and this is where "Delta Spirits" began to come to life.

Second Draft:

After designing the first draft above, I decided to change the color palette to something lighter. I didn't like the thought of a dark label on a dark liquid filled bottle, so I changed the palette to a lighter blue which connects back to the river flowing through the city.

This was also the stage when I began designing the mini book aspect of the label. Per assignment guidelines, all information was to be shown visually rather than textually. The first draft for that is shown below. The book begins with two pages of history and then has 5 pages of cocktail recipes.

Prototypes:

During the prototyping phase, I was able to analyze type size and the layout of the design in relation to the bottle. This was where I was able to pinpoint and measure what aspects needed to be moved around and altered.

Final Design:

For the final label, I moved around the design elements in order for it to lay correctly on the bourbon bottle. I also changed the history pages within the booklet, by adding a page and changing page two's graphic. All of those elements can be viewed as large images below, and at the end of this portfolio page the final design with all parts is pictured.
