Iterations:
I was given a set list of flowers to design symbols for. I began this project by researching each flower and sketching both on paper and digitally possible designs paths for each.

Design process:
My final flower designs were created by merging a lot of my iterations and constantly referring back to my research on each flower.

I then put those symbols into a rounded square and experimented with multiple color palettes and arrangements within the square.

I decided to go with this limited color palette to allow for the flowers' forms to be the focus rather than the colors. I chose these colors based on the greenery grown by each type of flower.
Symbol set expansion:
Once the color palette and symbols were finalized, I then expanded this symbol set by adding symbols for edible flowers and flower fossils. My sketches for these two symbols are above with the flower sketches, and some of my digital drafts are below.

I decided to reverse the color palette for the edible flowers and flower fossil symbols to allow the flower symbols to remain as a group of six, and these next two visibly an expansion of that six. Those final designs are below.

Final Symbol Set:

Top Row: Aster, Begonia, Carmellia, Carnation, Flower Fossil
Bottom Row: Calceolaria, Candytuft, Chrysantheum, Heliotrope, Edible Flowers
Promotional Poster:
I used these symbols to design a promotional poster for an event entitled Floralia that Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens was planning to host.

Gift Bag Design:
For this assignment, I was tasked to create a pattern using one of my symbols for a gift bag design. Using the Calceolaria flower symbol, I designed a bag that Franklin Botanical Gardens could use in their gift shop during the Floralia event.
